Easy does it. Sudden stops and starts are enefficient wastes of gasoline

i don’t doubt the reports, both on this podcast and in various other media, that organic food tastes better and that it is better for those who eat it than mass-produced food.
but … things are going to have to go a long way in bettering the prices of organic products — especially meats and poultry — before they’re ever going to be a normal part of my daily diet.
take, for example, the organic chickens i priced tonight in the supermarket here north of dublin: €16-€17 for a 3 kilogram bird. that’s between $21 and $22 in usd for one chicken!!!
i’d be the one of the first to hope these critters have happy lives as they trot around the grassy barnyard. but a $7+ a pound chicken is still way too much.
i suppose that they are in the markets at all is evidence that the organic trend is gaining some foothold, which is good.
we’re even seeing the german discount retailer lidl flogging a small selection of supposedly organic (they are tagged that way) vegetable and fruit produce. still, none of that is local — it’s mostly from spain as far as i can tell.
