Well, now that Microsoft has declared that they are involved with the NAIS’ plan to database and track all our Nation’s animals I guess we should feel a whole lot safer. We can imagine USDA field representatives wandering around the countryside with their Origami’s held out in front of them as they scan for missing, sick or dead livestock and relay it back to the Mothership. And the reason for this safe feeling? When have you known a MIcrosoft product to work right, without crashing, loosing data, or frustrating the operator beyond belief? But then again, with all the security breaches which Microsoft seems to attract perhaps we should be far more terrified. A database of names, locations and herd numbers open to hacking, breach and interference from the major meat packers needs to be sheltered from tampering with more than a Windows OS password. It seems that this country of ours is being sowed up into a neat little net with the American Consumer and Small-Farmer being held prisoner inside the Monopolies. It makes me glad I own a Mac and grow as much of my own food as I can.
