This is part one of two. In the first half of this week’s Gastrocast I talk about what’s going on here, and launch in to some talk about sustainability and how to get to River Cottage–or how do we reach a point in our lives where we begin to adopt a way of life which includes buying local and organic, and perhaps even raising our own vegetables and meats; and what that does for us and the larger community.

Sparked by a post from LondonChef on Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall I speak of how I eventually want to have my own River Cottage scenario. I have long been a fan or Mr. Fearnley-Whittingstall and watched some of the River Cottage Programs while I was living in Ireland. His meat cookbook is one I’ve had on my wish list for a while. Without realizing it, it seems that we are cut from the same cloth, the only difference being he got a TV series out of his material.

I discuss Hugh’s 12 steps to getting to that moment of providing for one’s self and attempting to maintain sustainability in one’s life.

Keeping with the discussed theme of Seasonality, the ingredient of the week this week is the Pomegranate, available in markets near you soon.

In part b of the show I cook Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli. Enjoy.
