Still working away at the cookbook. In the meanwhile here is Gastrocast #26–a technique for getting a elegant meal from a sow’s belly.
Flickr photos are here.
Despite what I say in the show, I think I will include this recipe in the upcoming cookbook. I’d better get the thing done soon, before it grows any more out of hand. . . .

hey neal, I like the unscripted podchef, I usually listen while cooking, and it’s sort of like just hanging out - when you get all pro radio guy, it sort of spoils it, but that’s just my opinion.
hugh.
wait that sounds negative! what i meant was a response to some comments you received about the unscripted — dogs & kids etc — that’s what I personally like abou podcasts, this sort of personal connection - rather than the rah rah entertainement that you get elsewhere. again, just my opinion, probably not reflective of mainstream…
Hugh–
Understood. I appreciate your thoughts. I’m not the scripted guy sort of thing anyway. (Hence, no bumpers, freaky sound bites, etc. Although I wouldn’t mind a bit more polish if it meant wrapping things up quicker in post production.)
I’m not after a pro status here with the show. I’m not going to rock the boat too much. I am going to try to cut down the time a bit. And maybe be more focused. I always seem to forget to say stuff–the address of the blog, who I am, what the ingredients are. . . .It’s a bitch to go back and add them in–never sounds quite right to me.
I did script at least one show tightly early on, and read several things–didn’t feel good.
About the mainstream. . . .not all that it’s cracked up to be. That’s what drew me to podcasting. If you surveyed the list of podcasts I listend to, you will notice I don’t listen to DJ wannabes or radio shows re-podcast, or radio show sound-alikes.
Partly too, why I don’t use the same music for each show–either you have a good jingle, or it becomes annoying–especially when listening to several episodes of a show in one go. The reason for repetition in tv and radio must come from the fact that we needed to be called back to the show from wherever we got to during the commercials. Blargh.
What would Ayn Rand have thought about podcasting? I don’t agree with Objectivism whole-heartedly but some of its tenents are at the root of podcasting. The Fountainhead could be viewed in the light of Major Media battling the freedom of expression the mp3 has brought out. . . .
don’t know if you’ve listened to some librivox recordings (or other audiolit stuff, try miette’s beditme stories!) stuff, but it’s the page turning, and throat clearing, and losing of the reader’s place that makes the readings so great, in my opinion. the human rather than the packaged.
anyway, keep up the great gastrocast work.
hugh.
I’ve been meaning to check out miette’s bedtime stories. I too, find nothing wrong with an ahem, or cough, or occasional ah in a podcast. I suppose it would be better for us all if we didn’t do it, but how less human we become.
Just putting in my twopence worth - I’m still really enjoying your podcasts! Informal is good. Don’t worry too much about gloss; as you say, human is cool.
Jimbo–Thanks!
