Well, now things are a bit more difficult, and the petrol seems to go down, but the prices are still the same. I simply don't get it.

One thing for sure...things look worse. With the Russia conflict, and the oil pipeline in jeopardy, who knows what is in store for us in the coming year!

If there is another war..let say with Iran..what will the prices be then?? living in Los Angeles subs is a nightmare. No public transportation except couple rail lines and that's it. Funny how this post started in 2005.

There doesn't seem to be any relief in sight. The interesting thing is, for example, Nigeria is one large oil producer, and they have huge poverty. Their inflation is something like 200% an hour!

Someone else is making the profits...and even with gas station owners, they are getting killed as the credit card fees on the higher dollar amounts eat into their slim profit margin.

The rise in fuel is causing energy price hikes, travel surcharges, and food prices to hike (distribution cost).

We should be in an interesting time...with credit crunch, subprime, inflation...recession...Depression?

Fuel is getting so expensive with time that it is going to be a luxury to just go for a ride. Sad but true.

I totally agree. The public transport network pales in comparison to the ones in Europe. Heck, even Hong Kong has a better public transport system than in the metropolitan city that I live in. Gas prices are simply at an outrageous rate in 2008 and will be climbing up even more. It might be time to consider a scooter.

Cheers,
Matt

Our once and mighty giant has become as impotent as the man in charge. (However you feel about his final term, at least Clinton didn't have an trouble in that area).
I was horrified when I went to the mainland yesterday to teach a class. Petrol was down from last time I bought it, by $0.04. But Propane--the fuel of my passion: cooking. It seems to have trippled in price since June. The squeeze is on.
While these prices rise like flood waters and the giganta corps and government cronies reap the rewards the poverty level of our country (or what constitutes it by some analysts) will fall.
I was horrified by the monthly income of some of Katrinas victims--$7000???? That is, like, some CEO's monthly club bill. $29,000 for a family of 7. Fuel costs rise any more and we're there now baby.
And I thought War was supposed to bring the warmonger's land prosperity and bouyancy. . . .
