Skypus Interuptus

Something strange happened this morning while I was talking on Skype with Bicyclemark.  My system froze and I had to re-start. Probably what I get for having a panoply of memory intensive apps open while talking on Skype, surfing the web and testing to see if Wiretap worked for recording Skype calls.  It was either Wiretap, or a beta timeline program I had just begun working with which caused the seizure. Unfortunately I lost most of my Skype contacts, and a bit of work I had begun when the Skye call came in. Technology, when it works can work so well, but when it doesn’t is disappointing.

Paper Chef & Catering

Life got in the way and I didn’t get a chance to participate in this month’s Paper Chef.  I did manage to catch up on a bit of reading, consuming quite a few food related articles and magazines.  Also worked on plans for the upcoming wedding I am working in July.

Eleven weeks away and many plans to put into place.  The actual feeding of 235 people–60 one night and 175 the next day–is not as challenging as scheduling everything and making sure it all happens. The food part of things is a bit stressful on the day, but it–for me–is the easiest and best part. The challenge is in the planning and organizing.  That we are doing the cake, flowers and food for two events back-to-back are a hectic matter. Finding help is even worse. I am having to fly in a chef friend from San Francisco whom I know will be able to take over food prep and cooking while other matters take my attention. Then I can work the intimate rehersal dinner myself and still be fresh enough to tackle the larger feast the next day.

The infrastructure of creating an outdoor kitchen on a tight budget is driving me crazy at the moment. I am one refridgerator short and the one I have which I will have to move from my house is too small for cake and flowers. It’s the moving stuff back and forth. It costs too much to own a large truck / van here in the islands–like $100 plus for each ferry trip–so we make do with smaller  vehicles.  My stationwagon will be a busy little bus. I will be honing my timeline over the next few weeks.
